Johnathan's been a regular at the Downtown Olympia Starbucks for nearly a decade, and has become friends with a few of the partners there. A conversation with the Shift Manager about her need to drive sales of their Clover-brewed coffee led to a wonderful project.
A preliminary meeting produced great ideas for a promotion that would run from November through February. Johnathan was given a few branding guidelines before submitting a series of comps for approval by Store Manager Callie. Each month's one-sheet would feature a short Q&A with customers who regularly opted for a Clover-brewed cup of Starbucks' coffee. They'd discuss why they prefer the Clover brewing method to drip or French press, how often they get their "Clover Fix", and their favorite Starbucks roasts to Clover. The surveyed customers would have their photo taken in the Downtown Starbucks, receive a voucher for a month of free Clover-brewed coffee, and have their "Clover customer profile" featured near the Clover machine for an entire month.
The promotion surpassed all expectations of increased Clover sales, increased customer inquiries regarding the Clover process, as well as increased barista interaction with and education of customers regarding the benefits of the Clover system. It'll be great to see what new projects can be explored in the future!
